Company’s Activities :

Our market is the world. The travel industry shows Japanese customers the world and Japan to the world. In order to compete in the global market, we must have a comprehensive system in place throughout Asia, America and Europe. Simply pur, our concept is to create a global standard. Our most important theme will be to establish a business foundation that is prepared for the 21st century. It is particularly important for a company like us that handles overseas travel to establish a global system and packages. To achieve this, we are undertaking three tasks. First, establishing an interactive information system that processes in real time information from around the world. Second, introducing a new financial system. Just as Thomas Cook developed travelers checks and American Express created the charge card, it seems inevitable that in the next century there will be new common currency that will be revolutionary in helping travelers. That will only help us grow even more. Thirdly, expanding our internal structure. We’ll do this by strengthening our planning, advertising and human resources departments. We are working to establish our business in the domestic and international market place. It is this way we can be a truly global, full service travel company.
We hope that perhaps, for the sake of our customers, this will somehow make a contribution to world peace.

1980 (3,910,000 overseas travellers)

  • Established International Tours, Inc.
Concerned about the difference in ticket prices in Japan and abroad, Sawada drew on his past travel experience and began selling discount airline tickets.
  • Launched the first hit travel plan “The India Free Tour”
In addition to discounted tickets to India via Bangkok, there were also informational meetings about India. This marked the beginning of H.I.S.’s policy of providing travel information for its customers.

1985

  • The first overseas branch in Hong Kong
It was opened in order to gain a foothold in travel to China as well as obtaining discount tickets for travel to Europe.
The overseas office functions to both provide real-time up-to-date local information and give travelers a service center at their destination.

1986 (Over 5,000,000 overseas travelers)

  • Opened Shinjuku Number One Travel, a travel information service for foreigners
With staff speaking 18 languages, it was aimed at foreigners who felt uneasy and inconvenienced by language differences. Customers could now buy tickets easily while feeling confident in the services of H.I.S., which has stood in its customers’ shoes.

1990 (Over 10,000,000 overseas travelers)

  • Introduction of the travel operation “WING” travel management system for reference and reservation management.
Over a million items of travel information including air tickets and hotels were available on this system which brought our foreign and domestic offices together on-line. From this wealth of information we were able to quickly match products to our clients needs, as well as properly manage reservations.

1993

  • Opening of the “Shinjuku Head Office Travel Wonderland” at the New South Exit of Shinjuku station
A veritable “travel department store” with staff to deal with every customer’s needs. An opening special four-day travel package to Hong Kong for 19,800yen resulted in a line that stretched around the building.

1995 (Over 15,000,000 overseas travelers)

  • Stock option availability
The purpose of the sale of stock was for recognition as a public enterprise, internal restructuring and the raising of funds. The resulting funds were used to start up a hotel venture.
  • Opening of the “World Navigation System” travel information dispatch base
A multimedia space for anyone to come and freely gather information on world travel. Brimming with latest information with an emphasis on hotels and on-the-spot reports.

1996

  • Entered the hotel business full-scale
H.I.S. built a hotel as “hardware” to help their customers fully enjoy their trip. Japan’s first world-class hotel, The Watermark Hotel, opened on Australia’s Gold Coast.
  • Skymark Airlines launched
Created to solve the question of “why are domestic airfares so expensive?” and to lower airfares in anticipation of airline deregulation.

1997

  • Opening of “Travel Wonderland Yokohama” at Yokohama Minatomirai 21 Our fifth-largest branch, it was opened in hopes of equaling the Shinjuku Head Office Travel Land.
  • Became a shareholder in Map International, Inc.
