Malaysian Companies in Thailand are
becoming more prevalent and more active. In the past couple of years we
have received many enquiries from companies in Malaysia looking to start
businesses here in Thailand or looking to market their products and
services here.

Recently we have secured two new
Malaysian clients for our database and marketing services. One company
looking to promote their services by organizing seminars in Bangkok.
Another company already operating in Thailand and with their head office
in Malaysia needing data on Thai companies and Thai executives to market
hotel and spa services. Yes there are problems in the border area
between Malaysia and Thailand but that doesn't seem to be having
anything but a minor localized effect. The following statement issued by
a Malaysian government agency sums up well the current position with
regard to Malaysian company involvement in Thailand and a
counterbalancing trade from Thai companies into Malaysia.

More Malaysian companies are showing
interest in expanding operations to Thailand, with a number of companies
setting up representative offices in Bangkok, Malaysian Ambassador to
Thailand Datuk Shaarani Ibrahim said in his message to the
Malaysian-Thai Chamber of Commerce (MTCC) Handbook and Directory 2007.
According to Thailand's Board of Investment (BOI), 157 Malaysian
companies with investments of US$1.6 billion (RM5.5 billion) had been
approved over the past five years.
The MTCC is poised to offer advice and assistance to new Malaysian
investors, as well as assist members to grow and diversify their
businesses in Thailand. With the Malaysian Government encouraging cross
border investments by Malaysian companies, there is increasing interest
among Malaysians to invest in Thailand, MTCC Chairman, Yeap Swee Chuan,
who is also the President and Chief Executive Officer of Aapico Hitech
Group said.
Noting the good rapport between both countries, Yeap hopes that there
would be increased opportunities for investment in each other's
countries or jointly in some third countries in the spirit of Asean
cooperation. To-date some of the major Malaysian companies operating in
Thailand are Petronas, Bina Puri, Aapico, Sime Darby, CIMB, MBF, RHB
Bank, Ingress Autoventures, Kurnia Insurance and Pathlab.
