GARY
MANLEY
As a highly
self-motivated person, confident in my teaching and
personal abilities I would be a great asset to a school
or private individual as a TEFL teacher. My academic and
personal experience, lend themselves greatly to the
skills that are needed to teach students of English from
other countries.
The
continual challenge of TEFL teaching motivates me to
always improve the standards of teaching I have already
achieved. In this way I can provide the best possible
lessons for my students, and always strive to further
myself as a teacher.

PERSONAL
EXPERIENCE AND LEISURE ACTIVITIES
I first became
interested in teaching through my involvement in the
sport of judo. Being a Dan grade black belt gave me the
opportunity to teach the junior players, and by doing
this I realised that I liked teaching and that I was
good at it.
After
completing my degree I considered the possibility of
taking a PGCE teaching course. But when I found out
about TEFL teaching I knew this was more suited to my
aims; the opportunity to travel around the world whilst
working as a teacher. I took a CELTA course at GEOS
college in Hove then worked for six months teaching
Austrian and Yugoslavian students during the summer
months of 1998; before embarking on a year of travelling
around Australia.
I started
applying for teaching jobs in Japan towards the end of
my hypnotherapy diploma and left for Japan in February
2002.I had always wanted to visit Japan, the country had
always interested me and I already had some knowledge of
Japanese by doing Judo. The year I spent in Japan was
both enjoyable and rewarding, working for Shane English
schools I taught both very young learners from the ages
of two up to sixteen and adult students in group and
private lessons.
At the end of 2003 I came to
Thailand and after traveling for four months, I worked
for the remainder of the year in Hua Hin. Firstly
teaching summer school for a private company, then I
spent seven months teaching at a private catholic
school; teaching Prathom 6 and Mathyom 1.
I then spent the rest of the
academic year teaching at Kirburi
school, teaching all the Mathyom years from Mathyom 1 up
to Mathyom 6.
Whether
aboard or working in Britain, teaching students from
other countries and learning about their different
cultures gives me constant motivation for TEFL teaching;
helping me to broaden my teaching and personal
experience.
