While
many first-time homeowners are not new to interior design and
what it entails, many are still stumped when it comes to trying
to visualise the end result of extensive renovation work. Perspective
drawings and materials samples help but nothing beats an actual
mock-up model design.
Little
wonder that when Jack Wong Design and Contract opened their new
showroom in Upper Serangoon Road some five months ago, the designers
painstakingly took the time to recreate parts of the home within
their 1,500 square feet showroom and at the same time, utilised
a wide selection of materials so that little was left to the imagination
of homeowners.
Various
flooring materials for the foyer area direct you in as you walk
through their timber glass main doors. While various platforms
of differing materials such as pebble, slate, solnhofener and
laminated floor follow your steps, you cannot help but notice
too the large panels of powder-coated aluminium window grilles
on the external wall. These are fringed with bamboo chick scallops,
which are ideally suitable for balcony areas in the home.
Wrought
iron rails gently lead the way to the dining area where you may
appreciate several wall features. A country stone wall is sandwiched
between a solnhofener tile wall complete with an Indonesian-style
window on the left and lighted niche displays above a wrought
iron display stand on the right. A special-dome shaped cornice
with an authentic sky effect looks down on the dining area below.
Kitchen
setups are not forgotten either. A country-style kitchen is distinguished
with timber rafters and Italian floor tiles. Fine detailing is
evident in the use of wrought ironmongery and motif handles. A
contemporary kitchen sits nearby in another corner. Here, the
beauty of stainless steel is used on cabinet trimmings and for
practical reasons, on the backsplash of the lowered hob area.
Wall tiles show off their coral colours and are not glossed over
to soften the overall effect.
