O.K.H. Ballet Centre, owned by a family of dancers, began
operations in April 1974. It is the first dance shop in
Singapore and South East Asia supplying a complete range of imported
dance attire, shoes and accessories. O.K.H.'s first dancewear
outlet was housed in a post-war terrace shophouse at 96 Owen Road.
Once the availability of dance wear became known in Singapore,
O.K.H. soon received orders from dance teachers and dancers
throughout South East Asia. Due to the high demand and popularity
for our imported dancewear, O.K.H. later branched out closer
to town at Tanglin Road.
WHO
IS O.K.H.?
In the early 70's, purchasing a pair of ballet tights or leotard
was almost impossible for any dancer. Mr Ong Kim Hock then decided
it was timely to set up a shop specialising in dance products
ranging from leotards, shoes, books and accessories that are not
readily available in Singapore or South East Asia. From these
beginnings, the name O.K.H. became known as The dance shop
which led the way in the dance circle offering dancers and teachers
a new perspective and choice of what to wear for class, rehearsals
and ice skating competitions

'S PRODUCTS
O.K.H. imported dance products are all made by renowned
manufacturers viz FREED OF LONDON, KATZ DANCEWEAR, CAPEZIO
AND ADAGIO - brands known by the dance professionals worldwide.
For the last 25 years in business, O.K.H. held sole agency
rights to FREED OF LONDON and TUNICS LTD, where
their dance wear conform to the specification of THE ROYAL
ACADEMY OF DANCING (LONDON) standard and regulation. As an
official stockist to the ROYAL ACADEMY OF DANCING (LONDON),
O.K.H. caters to the more serious side of dance business
which is, fitting dancers from Pre-Primary to Advanced level into
their respective R.A.D examination regulation wear to stocking
R.A.D exam syllabi books, videos and compact discs. Now
with dance expanding from the ballet discipline to other dance
forms like jazz and ballroom; keep fit and tap videos and compact
discs have also been added to our store.
COMMITMENT TO DANCE
At O.K.H., we believe in 'encouraging, serving and promoting
Dance and Dancers'. In 1995, O.K.H. realised the potential
of many young aspiring dancers and decided to start the 1st
Dance Competition in Singapore - THE O.K.H. Dance Competition.
The winner of the Senior section was sent to Australia to compete
in the Australia Dance Championship, whilst the Junior winner
was awarded a year of ballet tuition fee. O.K.H. has also
given Junior and Senior Dance Scholarships to several deserving
dancers. The winner of the Junior section won a whole year of
tuition fees while the winner of the Senior section was sent to
The Royal Academy of Dancing in United Kingdom and Japan.
O.K.H. is continuously looking into ways of promoting the
Art of Dance whether through donning Dancers, organising dance
competition or through dance scholarships and sponsorships.
O.K.H.'s dedication to dancers, dance teachers and dance companies
will always remain their top priority in their quest for excellence
in Dance.
