Our Teachers

Our teachers are all qualified, native-speakers, mostly from the United States, Great Britain or Canada. Some have worked in business before they become language trainers and some have worked as language trainers for their whole career. When we select our teachers, we look very carefully at the qualifications and background of the candidates. However, even more important than qualifications and background, are the personal skills of the candidates. Are they friendly, outgoing people? Are they sensitive to the needs of their students? Are they interested in business? Do they have a sense of humor? You can be sure the answer to all those questions will be 'yes'. You can also be sure that all our teachers bring two essential attributes to their work - enthusiasm and dedication - and they are ready to train your employees to communicate more effectively in English.

Most of our teachers have worked in Thailand for a long time and have a good understanding of Thai culture and the needs of Thai students. Between them they have a wealth of experience in corporate language training here in Bangkok. On the ‘About Us’ page, you will find a sample of some of the companies where our instructors have worked or are presently working.

At English at Work we support a communicative approach to language teaching. This means that students should be the most active people in the classroom. The teacher can already speak English, it is the students who need the practice! It is the teacher's job to present activities which encourage the students to communicate in English and through these activities their English skills will be improved. At English at Work we encourage our teachers to achieve this by creating a good atmosphere in the classroom where people feel relaxed enough to talk, by not correcting every mistake (this makes students afraid to speak) and by asking lots of questions and giving students time to answer. The activities chosen should, as much as possible, simulate situations which occur in the employees' professional lives.

Learning a language is hard work but, with the right teacher, it can also be a lot of fun and can help your employees to get to know each other outside their direct work environment.
