Thai Bulk Services Co Ltd (T.B.S.)
operates two floating pontoons in the Gulf of Thailand for the
trans-shipment of agricultural products such as tapioca from barges onto
seagoing vessels. The pontoons were built in1978 and ever since have
handled over 70 million tons of tapioca.
In the Gulf of Thailand, apart from tapioca, large volumes of bulk and
general cargo, such as coal, fertilizers and steel coils are
trans-shipped both from barges into oceangoing vessels (export) and from
vessels into barges (import). T.B.S. intends to extend their services
and handle these cargoes. Thereto their installations, which are
designed to handle export cargo only, need to be modified.
