At that time Carpets International Group was the largest carpet manufacturer outside the United States with operations and associated companies spread through eleven countries-the United States, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa with the remainder in Europe.
CIT was listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand in 1980, and was transformed into a Public Company in 1996. CIT’s largest shareholder today is the Hong Kong Carpet Group, with the balance held by a number of prestigious institutional investors and private individuals.
CIT is presently the largest carpet manufacturer in the Southeast Asia region. The modern factory, with 63,000 square meters of built-up area on 36 acres of land, is located on the outskirts of Bangkok near Don Muang International Airport.
The company currently employs 1,100 workers plus 200 sales and administrative staff. 1996 turnover amounted to Baht 1,087 million (US $41.8 million). Carpet production in 1996 totalled 5 million square meters, a figure that will easily be surpassed in the coming years.
