Lifestyles, a Canadian network marketer, recently acquired the
Bangkok based company Life Spring, to assist in its efforts to tackle the Thai
market. Terms of this transaction were not disclosed. For more than two years
Life Spring was importing Lifestyles flagship botanical product, Intra, for sale
in Thailand.
However, the company is now doing business as Lifestyles Asia Pacific (Thailand)
Co Ltd., and Lifestyles has taken over the offices located at Phaholyothin Place
in Bangkok.
In recent years Thailand has established itself as one of the largest direct
selling markets in Asia. With demand for Lifestyles' food supplement drink
established in Thailand already, thanks to the marketing efforts of Life Spring,
the company believes its Thai operation is poised to be another tremendous
international success story.
"We expect Thailand will surpass the Philippines to become our biggest market in
Asia in the next one or two years," says the President of Lifestyles, David
Drutz.
Though Lifestyles Asia Pacific (Thailand) only has about 500 distributors at
present the company will focus on developing its Thai network of distributors,
and feels confident that number will grow to between 8,000 and 10,000 within one
year. The purchase of Life Spring is part of Lifestyles' strategic plan, a plan
it says will see the company expand its distribution network to neighboring
countries and other parts of Asia. Lifestyles plans on entering the Malaysian
market in 2001. According to a source, Lifestyles recorded worldwide sales of
nearly CAD $145 million in 1999.
The company states its business in Asia makes up 40 percent of total revenues.
Founded in 1989, Lifestyles, with offices in 15 international markets,
manufactures and distributes nutritional, personal care and home cleaning
products through approximately 200,000 independent distributors in 31 countries. |
