Thainox Steel Limited is the first manufacturer and distributor of cold rolled
stainless steel sheets and coils in ASEAN. Its origin dates back to 1991 when
the first agreement was signed between Ugine, a member of the French giant
conglomerate Usinor-Sacilor (today Usinor Group), and the Thai PM Group, as a
Board of Investment (BOI) promoted joint venture.
Over the following years, new shareholders joined the initial founders to make
Thainox a true example of international cooperation between East and West,
between partners coming from old industrialized nations, such as France and
Japan, and newcomers from Thailand’s emerging economy.
The construction of the factory’s first phase was completed in mid- 1993, thanks
to the commitment of all parties involved and sound management. The first
Thainox stainless steel coils were then produced in November 1993. Our first
production line rapidly reached its full 60,000 tons-a-year limit. Therefore, a
second phase of plant construction was built to increase production up to
160,000 tons per year by the end of 1999.
In 1998, the company had a turnover and total asset of 5,486 million baht (USD
145 million) and 12,791 million baht (USD 337 million) respectively. At present,
the company employs more than 450 employees, of which 430 are located at Rayong
factory. This means that Thainox is perfectly prepared to answer the needs of
the market, not only in Thailand but also among neighboring ASEAN members and
the Asia Pacific region towards the 21st century.
