Somphol Bedding and Mattress Industry Co., Ltd. or SPB,
Springmate's manufacturer, is a semi-family-run business based in Bangkok, the
capital of Thailand. The business started in 1985 as a limited partnership, with
the aim to serve Thailand's growing hotel and accommodation industries and
general retail market with high quality mattresses and bedding at economical
price. Initially the firm acted as a distributor for many popular brand names in
Thailand.
Over the next several years, the partnership grew stronger. In order to raise
capital and expand the organization network, in 1993 SPB decided to convert
itself into a limited company with a new aim to become a manufacturer. In doing
so, it could maintain it's initial desire to provide Thailand with premium
quality mattresses and bedding at affordable price. Springmate was born.
The next few years saw a dramatic growth in the company's sales revenue, with
the brand Springmate becoming widely recognized in the booming contract sector
for its high quality and first-class after-sales services. Moreover, Springmate
began gaining an acceptance from a vast number of domestic luxurious hotels. The
completion of SPB's main plant, equipped with the latest manufacturing machines
from Switzerland, in Ayudhaya (a province near Bangkok) in 1997, helped
strengthening this trend.
In 1999, the company was honored by the 13th Asian Game organizer committee to
be the sole bedding and mattress supplier for the accommodation project for
international sportsmen and women who were involved in the Game.
The recent economic crisis has not at all dimmed Springmate's longstanding
reputation. In fact, Springmate now has a confirmed status as one of the leading
mattress and bedding brand of Thailand. Its reputation in Laos, one of
Thailand's neighboring countries, where over 80% of all mattresses used carry
the brand, is strong. In addition, Springmate has also been receiving a warm
welcome from Burmese and Cambodian growing hotel and accommodation industries.
