Originally, Sriracha Farm started its establishment from
pig-farming industry with registered investment of five million Baht (40 Baht:
US$ 1) in Sriracha, Chonburi, Thailand in about 1977. Afterward, during the year
1989, the company dramatically switched its preceding core business toward
commercial farming and developing crocodiles into valuable products, especially
crocodile skins. At first, Sriracha Farm spent 20 million Baht for 1,000 pairs
of adult crocodiles, and studied intensively to develop the way to feed
crocodile for the highest return. The farm paid more than two million Baht to
Australian crocodile researchers for the incubating techniques. Currently,
Sriracha Farm can feed and reproduce crocodiles by using the genetic selecting
system for the pure breed. Thus far the farm has about 3,000 pairs of adult
Siamese crocodiles, which is the highest number in the world.
During the past 20 years, Sriracha Farm has been mastering in crocodile
business. The firm has conducted a complete cycle of crocodile-related industry
from research to breeding, marketing and retailing finished crocodile
merchandise, including farm and field researching, feeding, slaughtering,
tanning, and making genuine crocodile leather goods. Furthermore, In order to
accomplish the ultimate goal of being the "Crocodile Universe", the firm
registered as Sriracha Farm (ASIA) Co., Ltd. Besides, Sriracha Farm has been
registered as a member of Crocodile Management Association of Thailand (CMAT)
and joined the Crocodile Specialist Group (CSG) SSC/IUCN. The Farm, therefore,
has received a permission from "Convention on International Trade in Endangered
Species of Wild Fauna and Flora" (CITES) to breed, distribute and sell crocodile
goods to both domestic and international customers. To achieve this scale of
economy, the company has been invested about 460 million Baht, and has about
80,000 crocodiles in 1999 with 30,000 animals yearly productivity |
