Company Profile: Westpack Banking Corporation was established in 1817 and is Australia's oldest bank.
It has almost 1,800 offices in 21 countries. It has had a presence in new Zealand for 137 years, where it is the largest bank following the purchase of Trust Bank in 1999

In Asia, Westpac has branches in Singapore, Hong Kong and Tokyo
and representative offices in Bangkok and Jakarta. Through its strategic
relationship with Standard Chartered Bank, Westpac can also provide access to
that bank's network of 250 offices in 21 countries in Asia.
Westpac's home markets are Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. Outside
these, the Bank provides a unified global trading operation and corporate
financial services to its strategic global customer base: Australian and New
Zealnad corporates, foreign based corporates with whom the Bank has valued
relationships in its home markets, governments and institutional investors who
use the Bank's financial markets products. Through Standard Chartered, Westpac
can provide access to domestic cash management and lending facilities in
selected Asian markets, including Thailand.
Westpac also maintains correspondent relationships with a large number of banks
globally for cross-border trade finance and financial markets business. The
Bangkok office provides corporate and financial markets banking services
representation.
As at 30 September 2000, group assets stood at AS 167.6 billion and
shareholders' equity (including loan capital) was AS 14.2 billion. Consolidated
net profit after tax for the year was as 1,72 million, an increase of 18% over
the previous year. |
