Company Profile: CGU Life Assurance (Thai) Co., Ltd. is a member
of CGNU
group which is the largest insurer in the UK
CGU Insurance (Thai) Co., Ltd. is the largest international
general insurer in Thailand receiving annual premium income of over
1,800 million baht.
With its head office in Bangkok, the company employs
more than 350 people and has a nationwide network of 13 regional branch
offices.
The company is an associate member company of the London based CGNU
group,
created after the merger of two UK insurance giants,
CGU and Norwich Union Merger happened in May 2000 .
CGNU plc is the UK's largest insurance group,
one of the top-five insurers in Europe and has substantial positions in
other markets around the world. CGNU is the world's
seventh-largest insurer based on gross worldwide premiums.
CGNU's principal business activities are long-term savings,
fund management and general insurance, with worldwide
premium income and investment sales from ongoing
business of more than 28 billion, and over 200 billion in assets under
management as of 31 December 2001.
CGU Insurance (Thai) was itself created after the merger of two
successful and long established international insurers,
Commercial Union Assurance Company (Thailand) Ltd. and
General Accident Insurance (Thailand) Co., Ltd. in July 1999.
Commercial Union's history in Thailand goes back to the
opening of an agency in Bangkok in 1889. and an operational branch
was established in 1967. Then in 1983 a joint-venture company with
Thai shareholders was set up. General Accident appointed its first agent
in
Thailand in 1935. After World War II a branch was set up and in 1982 a
Thai incorporated company was established which operated under the name
New Zealand Insurance.
