Traditional Bahraini Dance
The music of Bahrain follows the traditional Arabic mode. It is elaborate
and repetitive. It is played on the oud (an ancestor of the lute) and the
Rebaba (a one-stringed instrument). Bahrain also has a folk dance tradition.
The Ardha is a men's sword dance, which is accompanied by traditional
drummers and a poet, who sings the lyrics.
There are many dance traditions from the Arabian Peninsula, varying with
tribe, town and sub-culture. There are music/dance subcultures of Bedouin,
trading cities/towns, pearl divers, and those of African descent. Each
subculture has its own music/dance. The most famous dance you usually see
'official' troupes doing is the al-Ardha, a men's group sword dance of
solidarity. It is in slow motion and in a way mimics men in battle on
horseback. The rhythm is most often a stately 3/4, but there are many
variations. It is originally a Bedouin dance, but now that most Bedouin are
settled, it's done in all the cities and towns. But there are lots of
regional and local variations.

organization dedicated to bringing Latin and Brazilian Culture
to the people of Bahrain and the Gulf through the art of dance,
has significantly influenced the Latin scene in Bahrain with its
world class renowned teaching methods and Latin American
Entertainment.
Celi Fonseca, the founder of SalsaBahrain.com, began promoting
Latin American Culture and teaching Latin dance when she first
arrived in Bahrain from Australia in 2002. Her first venue for
classes was at The Bahrain Ballet Centre in Budayia, and soon
after she began holding classes in other venues around Bahrain.
SalsaBahrain Dance Classes are now held on a full time basis at
Garden City's Future Shape Studio in Budayia.
The SalsaBahrain team are united as a family and dedicated to
teaching Latin American dancing with ease and efficiency. It
comprises professional dancers & choreographers in Latin rhythms
such as Salsa, Merengue, Cha Cha, Tango, Lambada, Forro, Axe and
Brazilian Carnival Samba.

The Bahrain Arts Society, established in 1983 is a non-profit cultural
organization. Our objective is to participate in the cultural promotion and
