Traditional Ecuador Dance
Ritual and tradition are very important to indigenous people of Ecuador.

Music and dances are also part of tradition. Dances come in many varieties
from the ritual dances at religious festivals such as the June 29th
celebration of Saints Peter and Paul or Corpus Christi to the folk dances
from around the country which may reflect the courtship of young people, the
hunt, or respect for certain special wild animals and the modern dances and
music found in the contemporary bars and discotécas.
The Offerings: The women dress up and take offerings of flowers to
church, at seven in the morning; thus, when they die, they will enter
heaven.
The Guiquis o Monkeys: Are popular in the fiestas of the communities.
They put humor with their jokes, high spirits and grace.
The Dancers of Gañil: Symbolize the natural force and bravery of the
animal, represented by men.
The Hat Dance: The sombrero is the testimony of the ancestors and the
witness to future generations. It represents the cultural and ethnic value
of the dresses.
The Feast of St. John
The ancestral Indian dances in honor of the sun god and Paccha Mama (Mother
Earth) mixed 500 years ago with this dance brought by the Spanish. Twelve
couples dance around a pole, weaving multicolored ribbons in circles that
represent the Summer Solstice and try to decipher the cosmos: its symmetry
and its shape.
The Fiesta of Corpus Christi
The native Americans from Maca Grande in the Province of Cotopaxi, danced
during 21 days and 21 nights in a ritual in honor to the sun and the Paccha
Mama, thanking them for the maize harvest. This is the most representative
dance showing how the mestizo culture (blend of Spanish and Indian) came
together and joined their religious beliefs in the most representative dance
of Ecuador, featuring various characters, among them the Dancers, the
dancing Mamas, the Mayors, those handing out food, the Fireman, the players
of the pingullo flute and the Crazy Cow.

The Foundation Cultural Andean Ballet "EQUATOR, is a created
cultural organization and approved by Law of the Republic of the
Ecuador according to Ministerial Agreement 002-2001 the 16 of
Julio the 2001.He has own artificial person, and the character
of private Foundation and without ends of lucre, unaware to all
political activity. Domiciled in the city of Ambato, county of
Tungurahua, it can establish headquarters in all the counties of
the country. It is an entity of social nature, of service and
human, economic and cultural development, it foments, he
investigates, it diffuses, it finances and it favors programs
that rescue our ethnic customs to be expressed by means of the
music and the dance at national and international level. It
plans and it executes programs of social, cultural, sport
development and of health.
International Festival
WOMEN IN DANCE
The creative commitment and the solidness of Susana Reyes and
Moti Deren surprise and stimulate. In just a few years, they
have turned Quito into a clear reference of Latin American dance
and the International Festival Women in Dance, into a unique
platform for sharing the spiritual, social and artistic values
that they proclaim.
Women in the dance is not a conventional festival. In fact, it
is very distant from being just that. Its accent is put in a
fraternal sharing. The promotion of the human being, as
individual and collective beings through dance, has oriented its
actions from the beginning of this project, conceived from the
most elevated of utopias and most seasoned convictions.
The call power exhibited by its fundamental promoters, has
surprised all. The goals attained by their initiative, in the
social, educative and the creative sense, has elevated the
valorization of dance as a cultural manifestation. Beyond this
immensurable achievement, Women in the Dance, through its three
consecutive editions, have stimulated the self-esteem of the
Quito community, making of the historical center of the city a
genuinely human scope, where tolerance and harmony can coexist.
Women in the Dance has no comparison in Latin America and the
world. Its mission goes much further than a possible encounter
of exalted artistic personalities, vindicating to its fullness
the values of the coexistence and of promoting human values, and
being in balance with the self and its cultural surroundings.
The IV International Festival Women in the Dance bets for an
Ecuador and a Latin America as a territory of the possible,
where the most legitimate collective dreams become a reality.
